Share or loan your horse to someone you've actually chosen.
Riders near you apply with a profile, not a DM. Read them side by side, meet the one you like at a viewing, and hand over with your yard, farrier and vet already filled in.
- Free to list and be found
- First three applications free to read
- The price is shown before you list

Four ways to offer a horse. You choose, and say so up front.
Every listing states its arrangement, its days and its fee in one line, so the riders who apply already know what they're applying for. Open to more than one? Say that too.
Share
Someone rides and helps on set days each week. Your horse stays with you, at your yard.
For example: Share · Tue, Thu · £35/wk
Full loan
Your horse goes to the loaner, who takes on the day-to-day care and the costs. You keep ownership.
For example: Full loan · long term
Loan to buy
A loan with the option to buy at the end, so both of you find out first whether it works.
For example: Loan to buy · no fee
Companion
For a horse whose ridden days are done, as company for another horse.
For example: Companion loan · no fee
Applications, not forty DMs that all say “is she still available?”
Riders apply with the same profile every time: their experience and the days they can do. So you compare like with like, and nobody gets chosen for replying fastest.
Once you've opened your applications, the ones you leave untouched lapse on their own, so nobody is left waiting on a maybe.
From listing to handover, in one place.
Step 1: Describe your horse
Height, age, temperament, what they carry and where they live. Photos now, video when you have it.
Step 2: Set the arrangement
Share, loan, loan to buy or companion, with the days and the fee. You can be open to more than one.
Step 3: Read applications
Same-shaped profiles, side by side. The first 3 are free to read.
Step 4: Meet at a viewing
Arrange a viewing with the rider you like, in the same thread as their application.
Step 5: Agree and hand over
One checklist, with your yard, farrier and vet already filled in from OpenStable.
Free to list. You pay only once it's working.
Classified sites charge for the advert before anyone has replied. Here the first three applications are yours to read free, and Horse Owner Pro is only for the rest.
- List your horse and stay live
- Be found by riders searching near you
- Read the first three applications in full
- Open every application after the first three
You'll see this price, £9.99 a month, in the listing composer before you publish.
Compare plansOwner questions.
Does it cost anything to list my horse?
No. Listing, staying live and being found are free, and you can read the first three applications in full. Horse Owner Pro is £9.99 a month and opens every application after that. You see the price in the composer before you publish.
Who can apply to share or loan my horse?
Anyone with a free OpenStable account. Each rider applies with the same profile, so you can compare them side by side, and you decide who to meet.
Do I need my own insurance to share or loan a horse?
Not to apply — but before anything is agreed. The owner will ask what cover you hold, such as personal liability cover through a riding club or BHS membership. You confirm it in your own words; OpenStable doesn't check it and doesn't sell it.
Can the horse be sold to me later?
Some owners offer a loan with a view to buy, and the listing says so when they do. Any sale happens off OpenStable — we list shares and loans, never sales.
